WORDS ARE ARMS !
Some words about "Zapatista" experience.
The "Zapatista" experience has put again under discussion the concept of
internationalism as a way to solidarize with
organizations, guerrilla movement of marxist style whose main goal is the
conquest of the power. Now, after the
falldown of the Berlin's wall and of the realist socialismm, the concept of
solidarity has a new mean. The first ones to
understand this are the "Zapatistas" by the issue of their first
announcement outlining the differences existing between
them and the "Sandinista" and "Salvador"'s fronts. As a concequence, the
Zapatistas take in more consideration the
several antagonist movements fighting against the capitalist model all over
the world rather than a powerful party. The
spreading of capitalism as a world's standard social model has re-designed
the world's political borders outlining the
differences between poor people and rich ones rather than between Eastern
and Western countries. The EZLN cries
not only ask for solidarity but also invite the opposition forces to
counteract the new capitalist philosophy: the Neo-Free-
Trade Concept. The first press-releases of Marcos outline the importance of
counteracting the capitalist model in every
country of the world and, as a consequence, one of the first EZLN's
initiative is to solidarize with the demostrations of
the Italian workers of "Alfa di Arese". In Mexico, the NAFTA agreement
(free-trade agreement signed by USA,
Mexico and Canada) is one of the many tools used by international lobbies to
increase their profits. As a consequence,
also the Mexican unemployment figures and the Pesos devaluation increase
while the little firms die. On 1995 the poor
people in Mexico are 40 millions of units, the 77% of the whole. Only the
monopolies, the big publishing and TV
companies and the multinational branches take advantage of the NAFTA
agreement. On 2 february 1995, the FMI
involves itself with 20 milllions of dollars to support this kind of
"economic project". On 9 february 1995 the mexican
federal army's offensive supported by the US spy satellites has the main
goal to erase the Zapatista's experience. In the
same time, in Italy, a political attack to the social welfare causes a loss
of 1.500.000 work's units. These are only some
examples of how the application of Neo-Free-Trade concept all over the world
means an increase of profits for the big
business and an increase of problems for the poor people. As e result, the
discontent of workers and unemployed
people of industrial and non-industrial countries lead to record thousands
of demonstrartions all over the world sharing
a unique enemy: the Neo-Free-Trade Concept. While in France the social
protest is represented by huge
demonstrations and national strikes, in Mexico the indios choose the
guerrilla as an appropriate answer to land-owners,
Mexican and US government which have injuried Mexican people with poverty,
hunger and illness. The Zapatista's
revolt started on 1 January 1994 has caused fear among US markets and
otulined the need to discuss about international
solidarity. The Zapatista's cry has been listened also in Italy: committees,
associations and movements have carried out a
national coordination supporting the EZLN and designing social projects to
help Chiapas people with the collaboration
of Italian workers' roganizations.
