ABSTRACT
Studied the relationship between problem-solving behaviors and language use while thinking aloud in problem-solving situations. It was hypothesized that high dogmatism scores and frequent use of negations and conditional phrases are associated with a lack of analytic differentiation in problem analysis and a low flexibility in problem-solving behavior. Human subjects: 59 male and female West German adults (mean age 23 yrs) (university students). Ss were asked to think aloud while managing a complex computer-simulated ecosystem. In addition, Ss were asked to write an essay analyzing the problem situation. Interactions between problem-solving performances, use of negations and conditional phrases, and scores on the "Dogmatismustextauswertung Verfahren" (Dogmatism Text Evaluation Procedure) by S. Ertel (1972) were analyzed. (English abstract) (PsycLIT Database Copyright 1991 American Psychological Assn, all rights reserved)
